Description: When collecting posters, the picky collector has to be aware of the general hierarchy of rarity associated with the various types of posters available on the market. First, you have the posters which were produced for public consumption. These posters can be very common in nature but can also be extremely rare. For example, a factory 1966 GT350 poster was an iconic piece available in the Shelby American catalog but it was so heavily ordered that, while desirable, it is not particularly rare to find. Conversely, a 427 “Road Cars” poster from 1967 was only ever sold in one ad in the pages of Car and Driver. It was rarely ordered and, as a result, very exist today with originals commanding a massive price. Beyond publicly available posters, there are those which were only sent to dealerships for display. These posters are an entirely different order or rarity and, thus, occupy an elevated position in the perception of the world’s most discerning collectors.

The poster seen here was produced in 1963 and was only supplied by Shelby American to authorized dealerships for display in their showroom. These posters were never available for sale to the public so they were produced in an extremely small quantity. In addition, the intended use of this poster was to be taped to a showroom window for a year or two, faded from the sun, and ultimately discarded when it was no longer presentable.

This example ahs survived the test of time in amazing condition and has been preserved for future generations on acid-free archival linen. It is ready for framing and its colors are amazingly well preserved.

Examples of this poster rarely sell (maybe one every few years) but, when they do, they ring the bell. Examples seen below have traded with Mecum Auctions at $8,255, $7,080, and $6,514.

An extremely fine example of this remarkably rare poster and priced well within the market. No buyers premium or sellers premium allows a collector to get into this amazing poster at a very reasonable cost!
